MATTHEW HOLLIS, POET

MATTHEW HOLLIS was born in Norwich in 1971. Ground Water (Bloodaxe 2004), his first full-length collection, was shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize for Poetry, the Guardian First Book Award and the Forward Prize for Best First Collection. He published a pamphlet, The Boy on the Edge of Happiness, with Smith/Doorstop in 1996 and won an Eric Gregory Award in 1999. He is co-editor of 101 Poems Against War (Faber, 2003) and Strong Words: Modern Poets on Modern Poetry (Bloodaxe, 2000), and works as an editor at Faber and Faber. He is Writer-in-Residence at the Wordsworth Trust.

 


OWEN SHEERS, POET

Owen Sheers was born in 1974 in Suva Fiji. Brought up in London and Abergavenny, South Wales, he was educated at King Henry VIII Comprehensive, New college Oxford and the University of East Anglia. His first collection of poetry The Blue Book (Seren, 2000) was short-listed for both the Forward Prize Best First Collection 2001 and the Welsh Book of the Year 2001. Named as one of the Independent on Sunday's top thirty young British writers, he also won an Eric Gregory Award and the Vogue Talent Contest for young Writers in 1999. In 2004 Owen was selected as one of the Poetry Book Society's 20 Next Generation Poets and was writer in residence at The Wordsworth Trust.

Polly Clark is a poet living and working in the UK. Her second collection Take Me With You is coming out from Bloodaxe in November 2005 and is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation. Polly's first book, Kiss (Bloodaxe 2000) was also a Poetry Book Society Recommendation and in 1997 she won an Eric Gregory Award for her work. She has won the Mslexia International Poetry Competition twice (2004 and 2005), has been a prizewinner in the Bridport competition and in 2004 was selected as one of Mslexia Magazine's top ten poets to emerge in the last decade.
